Postural Alignment

With her knowledge of biomechanics, Dr. Vander Yacht can gently enhance your posture. Posture affects your quality of life. Poor posture can limit your range of motion, create pain in the jaw, decrease lung capacity, lead to low back pain, cause nerve interference, affect proper bowel function, and make you look older than you are.

Massage

Full Body Massage

Full body massage combines Swedish and deep tissue massage with Thai massage, reflexology, neuromuscular therapy, and postural corrections. For information on the many health benefits of massage, click here.

Aromatherapy Massage

Receptor cells in the nose send messages immediately along olfactory nerves to the limbic brain where feelings and memories associates with smell are released into consciousness. Essential oils have a complex chemical makeup, thus affecting the brain. For instance, lavender contains linalyl acetate, an ester that has a calming and balancing effect on the central nervous system. Lavender also triggers the neurotransmitter serotonin in the brain that brings a sense of well being.

Essential oils, due to their lipophilic quality, can penetrate fatty material and thus pass through the blood-brain barrier. When essential oils are incorporated into the massage experience, essential oils on the skin enter the bloodstream, creating healing actions on the body and brain. Each essence has an affinity with a specific part of the body and an emotional state of the mind.

Essential oils remain in the body 4-6 hours and are then eliminated through the lungs and kidneys. They are catalysts for healing that remain after the essences themselves have left the body. Essential oils have no toxic buildup and no side effects like many drugs have.

Thai Massage

Table Thai massage is different from a typical massage in that it does not involve any oil or lotion and the client is dressed in comfortable, loose clothing. Artfully done in a series of stretches and compressions like a dance, it is sometimes referred to as "lazy man's yoga." The beauty of Thai massage is that it leaves you feeling more flexible and rejuvenated.

Hot Stone Massage

Hot stone massage is a modality utilizing soothing warm and smooth stones to promote a deep relaxation and relief of long standing muscular tension, stress, and fatigue. It is recommended in addition to Swedish and deep tissue massage for people who have difficulty relaxing.

Reflexology Massage

Reflexology involves stimulation of points on feets, hands and ears. It is deeply relaxing and helpful in balancing the body and mind.

Muscle Stimulation

Muscle stimulation is primarily used to treat soft tissue and joint pain. Gentle electrical pulses are transmitted to a specific point with small electrodes placed on the skin in order to activate the nerves to contract or relax the muscle. There are many types of muscle stimulation and combinations used for:

  • pain relief
  • to reduce inflammation
  • to reduce muscle spasm
  • to reduce muscle atrophy

Ultrasound Treatment

Ultrasound is used to treat soft tissue and joint injuries such as strains, sprains, bursitis, osteoarthritis, myofascial pain and pain caused by scar tissue. The vibration of high frequency sound waves vibrate the tissues deep within the injured area, thereby increasing localized blood flow to:

  • relieve pain and inflammation
  • speed healing
  • reduce muscle spasms
  • increase range of motion
